SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Mixcloud and Vimeo to MP3 – on Mac and Windows.
A DJ mix on Mixcloud, a remix on SoundCloud, a track from an indie label on Bandcamp or a live session on Vimeo: with StreamWriter Studio you save them straight to your Mac or Windows PC. Paste the link, pick a format, done – as MP3, or for Vimeo as video too. No ad-ridden converter websites, no pop-ups, no browser detours.
The feature is part of the direct-download version from our website and is meant for private use. What works and what doesn't is spelled out plainly below.
How it works
1. Copy the link: Open the individual track or video on SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Mixcloud or Vimeo and copy its address from the browser's address bar or via the site's share button.
2. Paste: Paste the link into the search and link field of StreamWriter Studio's File Converter. The app recognises which site it comes from.
3. Choose a format: Pick MP3 for music. For Vimeo you can choose a video format such as MP4 instead.
4. Download: Click “Download” – done. The MP3 lands in your library; videos are saved as files.
From there it's like any other recording: play it, trim it in the waveform editor, edit the tags, sort it into playlists – and on the Mac, send it to the iPhone app or export it to Apple Music.
Supported sites and formats
| Site | Typical content | Save as |
|---|---|---|
| SoundCloud | Tracks, remixes, mixes | Audio, e.g. MP3 |
| Bandcamp | Tracks by artists and labels | Audio, e.g. MP3 |
| Mixcloud | DJ mixes, radio shows | Audio, e.g. MP3 |
| Vimeo | Videos, music videos, live sessions | Video (e.g. MP4) or audio only as MP3 |
SoundCloud, Bandcamp and Mixcloud are audio-only platforms, so the app always saves just the audio there. The built-in converter also turns files into M4A, M4R (iPhone ringtone), WAV, FLAC or Opus, and videos into MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or AVI.
YouTube works too, with search right inside the app – see the guide YouTube as MP3 on the Mac.
What doesn't work – honestly
StreamWriter Studio only downloads what a site makes freely available. That means:
- Albums, sets and playlists: for a Bandcamp album, a SoundCloud set or a playlist, only the first track is downloaded. For other songs, use the link of each individual track.
- Freely available content only: tracks that require a login or purchase, or that are copy-protected, can't be downloaded.
- SoundCloud previews: if a track can only be played for free as a 30-second preview, the full song isn't available – the app tells you so instead of saving the snippet as if it were the whole track.
- Geo restrictions: content released only in certain countries can only be downloaded there.
- Direct version only: the Mac App Store version doesn't include the downloader.
Important: the legal side in brief
1. Private copying: for strictly private use, many countries have private-copy rules (in Germany § 53 UrhG) – permissible as long as no copy protection is circumvented and the source is not obviously unlawful. Sharing, uploading or commercial use are not covered.
2. The platforms' terms: SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Mixcloud and Vimeo have their own terms of use, which may restrict or prohibit downloading. When in doubt, check what the site in question allows.
In short: use the feature responsibly – privately, without sharing, preferably for your own, freely licensed or otherwise unavailable content. If an artist offers their music for download or sale themselves, on Bandcamp for example, that's the fair way to support them.
Note: not legal advice. StreamWriter Studio is not affiliated with SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Mixcloud or Vimeo. Last updated: November 2026.

Frequently asked questions
How do I download a SoundCloud track as MP3?
Copy the track link on SoundCloud, paste it into the link field of StreamWriter Studio's File Converter, choose MP3 and click “Download”. It works on Mac and Windows, provided the track is freely available.
Can I download a whole Bandcamp album or SoundCloud set at once?
No. For albums, sets and playlists, StreamWriter Studio only downloads the first track. For other songs, paste the link of each individual track.
Why doesn't it work with some SoundCloud tracks?
Usually the track isn't freely available – because of a login, purchase, copy protection or geo restriction – or SoundCloud only offers a free 30-second preview. Then the full song can't be downloaded.
Can I save Vimeo videos as video?
Yes – as video, for example MP4, or just the audio as MP3. Again, only freely accessible videos without a login, purchase or copy protection.
Is downloading from SoundCloud or Mixcloud legal?
For strictly private use, many countries have private-copy rules (in Germany § 53 UrhG), provided no copy protection is circumvented and the source is not obviously unlawful. The platforms' terms of use may still prohibit downloading. So: private use only, no sharing.
Can I try StreamWriter Studio first?
Yes, on the Mac: one hour free with every feature – no sign-up, no payment details. Every purchase also comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee. One license covers one device, Mac or Windows.
